[TEASER] Turning Five!

May is always the most exciting month of the year for us. It represent the personal new year of Lir: it's the month of our anniversary! Lir is turning 5 on May 9, 2016. For our 5th anniversary, we have several programs lining up, waiting to be formally announced to the world. We are giddy with excitement right now. 

So, what to expect this month at Lir? I can give you some hints.. (while the rest of it remain secrets-- stay tuned for our official poster release on Instagram, facebook, twitter, and in this blog)

Art:

A series of exhibition marathon, featuring our curatorial-research team: "The Observant Club", focusing on alternative art education, independent-book making as a form of solo exhibition, and questioning the notion of 'space' in the exhibition space. There will be four exhibitions in one month, featuring the work of senior artists as well as young artists from Jakarta, Jogja, Surabaya, and (maybe) Bali. 

Books:

Cheap book sale and even more books to take on a blind date! 

Activity: 

How about a literature class for writing a personal hand-written letter, taught by a well known author? I would personally sign up for that!

Treats:

Music:

We'd really love to celebrate our birthday with some folks.. but, our beloved music-event manager is currently undertaking a 'residency' in the island of God.. still, one can always hope right? If you wish to sing some folk this month, let's make a plea to folkafternoon via his instagram, twitter, and facebook account. Who knows he'll take a quick holiday back home to make some music! *winkwink*

June Report: Sewing Picnic Vol.1

Sewing Picnic adalah sebuah workshop craft di alam bebas yang diinisiasi oleh Hello Bleu dan Lir. Dalam acara ini, kami memberikan sebuah paket lengkap liburan sehari semalam dan beberapa kali workshop. Sewing Picnic kali ini merupakan pilot project.. berikutnya, kami akan mengadakan lagi Sewing Picnic yang lain beberapa bulan ke depan. Maka, mari menyebutnya sebagai Sewing Picnic Vol.1 

Acara ini dimulai dengan seluruh peserta berkumpul di Lir Shop untuk kemudian bersama-sama naik ke Kaliurang bersama dengan mobil. Rencananya, sesampainya di Kaliurang kami akan mengadakan Afternoon Tea Party sambil saling berkenalan dan melakukan workshop pertama. Berikutnya, kami akan beristirahat sebentar, mandi, memilih kamar (paket yang ditawarkan sudah termasuk penginapan, makan, transportasi, dan workshop); dan kemudian dilanjutkan dengan BBQ party. Malamnya, kami mengadakan semacam beauty class sebelum tidur. 

Pada prakteknya, kami tidak jadi mengadakan BBQ party, namun memilih untuk berpiknik malam hari di depan taman rekreasi sembari makan malam dari para penjual di jalan itu. Seru sekali! Kami bercakap-cakap sampai malam, star-gazing di atap selama dua jam, dan berangkat tidur pada pukul 2 pagi. 

Karena begitu bersemangatnya, para peserta bangun dan sudah siap kembali berjalan-jalan pada pukul 7 pagi. Para gadis-gadis telah mengenakan dress manis, berdandan, dan bahkan sempat menata rambut mereka! 

Paginya, kami mengadakan morning tour keliling kaliurang, membeli sarapan lokal di depan taman rekreasi, dan  berjalan-jalan menyusuri rumah-rumah tua yang cantik sambil berpesta ice cream. Sesampainya kami di lokasi piknik, kami segera menggelar tikar dan mulai belajar menjahit. 

Hasilnya, semua mendapatkan bunga cantik buatan sendiri dan giveaway dari Hello Bleu berupa gantungan kunci berbentuk mamushka. We're having so much fun!

April Report: Clay Class with Teapot Studio

It was a busy and bright Sunday at Lir when Teapot Studio takes over our place and make this fun workshop. After a short introduction, everyone gets their hand dirty by playing with the clay and start molding the miniature version of themselves. By the end of the day, everyone seems to be quite an expert on this thing.. I mean, just look at the result of their miniature! So cute!!

Crafty Sunday with Hello Bleu

On Sunday, May 18 at 11am, a group of pretty girls gather at Lir to join Hello Bleu's craft workshop. This time, they learn how to make bird-shaped wall hangings. Everyone was free to choose what material would they use and how would they like the result to be. At the end of the session, they can bring their cute creations home. It was really fun, we should do it again soon, right? 

Independent Book Making Club

On Wednesday, March 7th; we started Independent Book Making Club. It's not a book club but more of a club about making books independently. We believe that everyone can make book and we love publishing it independently!

Sunday Cooking Class: January

It was a very exciting class. Seems like everybody gets really close and chatty after the first few minutes. First, Uncle Bear introduced them to the spices that will be used for the whole dish. Then, everyone start cooking Briyani Rice. While waiting for that aromatic rice to be perfectly cooked, everyone start cooking Chicken Curry. Just before serving, they learn how to make Raita (using the fresh homemade yogurt from Lir Shop's Mooi)..and iced spice tea. So.. voila! A whole set is ready to pamper everyone's appetite!  ;) 

When Artist Cook #1: a Quirky Afternoon

This is the pilot project  of When Artist Cook series and we thank our friend from Belkatrelka who's gladly become our very first artist! Yay!! You see, it was actually meant to gather people with some inspiring artists and give a chance to share some thought and conversations over food. Nevertheless, this first edition of When Artist Cook went very nicely..with a dash of quirky performance by Belkastrelka (with all the trumpet played by Uncle Bear, Sputnik Bunny sings, and Yennu plays the cute guitalele), and their food is more or less as experimental as their music..as idealistic (see the recipe below), and totally perfect for the afternoon! Maybe we should do another series of it in the near future.. but first, tell us which artist would you like to share conversation over meals? ;)

It was a bright morning when we held Workshop2. Eight people attended the workshop out of ten invitations. These eight people are Dimpil, Menus from Jogja Zine Attack, Putri and Ojan of Nest of Ojanto, Kiki of Hello Bleu, HamHam and Hilman of Alphabeta Journal, and Ai from Teapot studio. Later they are expected to share their abilities to public via workshops that will be done during this year. (Yay!!) Workshop2 was rather a long workshop. Of course it was as fun. Just look at these photos below! ;)

Saturday Afternoon with Hello Bleu

It was one fine afternoon and a group of pretty ladies gather in Lir Shop for a crafting workshop with Hello Bleu, making coin pouch. It was so fun, everyone are happy, giggly, and busy working with their cute little handmade coin pouch. The vibe mingles and we really long for more and more crafty workshop to come.

(Late) report of Jogja Zine Attack 2011 at Lir Shop. Last few weeks, Lir Shop and Indra Menus held a zine party for a week. It was started with a workshop on Sunday, September 25, 2011. Those who join the workshop create a zine anthology called Antologi Zine Lir". It was such a cool workshop indeed.

Mari menghabiskan waktu menanti buka puasa dengan berkarya dan berkreasi. Selama bulan puasa, Lir Shop mengadakan serangkaian acara workshop dan klub hobi (hampir) setiap hari. Program NgabubuLIR dimulai pada hari Selasa, 2 Agustus 2011 hingga Rabu, 24 Agustus 2011; pukul 3 sore hingga selesai.

Last Sunday, we held a practical painting workshop with Ben Fox and Kate Fielding from Willurarra Creative, Australia. It was a very fun and enriching workshop. Even a few hours before the workshop begin, happy dancing music has already played non-stop at Lir. ;)

Sorry for the hiatus.. and please excuse us for this late posting of last Sunday's event report. It was such a blast and we need to recover from the dream-like pace of time. In many ways, Sambil Menyulam Minum Air event was exceeding expectations and we can't thank enough for all of you!
